Connecting dots for digital learning and teaching

Education-Focused Search Engine for K12

Gooru, a free search engine for learning, teachers and students can use Gooru to search for rich collections of multimedia resources, digital textbooks, videos, games and quizzes created by educators in the Gooru community. Collections are aligned to standards and currently cover every 5th-12th grade math, science and social science topic, with more subjects coming soon.

Gooru just launched a free iPad app for that purpose too. The app is called Gooru Collections. It is completely free to use. There is no any in-app purchases and you can use it without registering on Gooru. But registering on Gooru will open up extra benefits like the option to organize a shelf of your favorite resources. For more information, see our iPad Apps page.

Gooru allows users to access a pool of high-quality, vetted material within an easy-to-use framework. Users can interact, bookmark, customize and share their collections, as well as study using Gooru quizzes or suggested resources. Ultimately, Gooru will be able to provide real-time feedback for students and teachers, and suggest resources based on performance and preferences inferred through clustering techniques. Our machine learning experts are working hard to develop and improve our algorithms and performance and deliver a truly personalized and adaptive learning experience.

search learning material

A new nonprofit search engine dubbed “Gooru“ announced today an ambitious plan to bring personalized learning to K12 education.

Gooru, a Silicon Valley company, was founded by Yahoo India’s former CTO (think education-focused Google without the ads). It is teaming up with Silverback Learning, a Boise, Idaho-based tech startup founded by teachers, to identify students’ needs and offer them relevant online learning materials.

What’s particularly interesting is that through Gooru, students and teachers can access resources that are aligned with Common Core State Standards, the initiative to bring diverse state-by-state curricula into alignment by 2014/15.

We are pretty excited about Gooru will help educators and students find learning resources, especially open educational resources (OER), and bring us personalized learning in future!
